Museum of Arts and Crafts
A fascinating journey through time. The Museum of Arts and Crafts – MAO is a cultural space that houses and disseminates a representative collection of the world of work, arts, and crafts in Brazil. A meeting place for workers with themselves, their history, and their time. The collection that gave rise to the museum, with original pieces from the 18th to the 20th centuries, began about 50 years ago.
Open to the public since January 2006, the SESI MAO is located in the Central Railway Station of Belo Horizonte, next to the Central Metro Station, through which thousands of people pass daily. It is, therefore, a space consistent with the nature of the collection, very close to the worker. To house the Museum, two old buildings of rare architectural beauty, listed as public heritage sites, were restored. Its establishment motivated the renovation of the Praça da Estação (Station Square), the city's inaugural landmark.
